Ethnographic Information
Aventura started off as a few young boys from New York, with a dream. They had a dream of preforming Bachata, however it was always a bit taboo for them considering they were a boy band from NY trying to make it big on a Dominican style of music. The group was created in 1994 in the Bronx by Anthony Santos, Lenny Santos, Max Santos, and Henry Santos Jeter. Forming this band, their overall goal was to "break Dominican bachata music out from its traditional base and fuse it with the other sounds they heard every day, like hip-hop and R&B"' according to Rovi, a reporter from Billboards.com. When coming to signing a record deal, Aventura wouldn’t sell out. They wanted to keep their own style of the Dominican music they worked so hard to rearrange and make it their own. Their real break didn't come until 1999. They were signed to BMG and they released their first debut. The material, however, was still their own and they refused to let anyone change them and they resisted being turned into just another basic boy band like the Backstreet Boys or NSYNC. They were able to keep their identity and their own flare by staying true to their original style of music. Because of their unique style of mysic, their style was able to hit rock the top music industry charts.Three years later they released We Broke the Rules, during which time they worked hard to identify what they were doing very right with their music and what could use inprovements. They used all of their observed information to make We Broke the Rules the best album they could possibly make it. Whatever they did, it worked fairly well. The single "Obsession" became a hit with Latin youth, finding a strong

crossover into hip-hop. They broke all the bachata rules, creating a new style of music and dance without losing the roots of why they're doing it in the first place. After a while of growing popularity in the U.S., They pushed forward and conquered the hearts of Europe by frequently touring and catching attention. Love & Hate eventually came out in 2003, which did an amazing job at sticking to their roots, thus keeping all fans, old and new! In 2005, they eventually released God's Project, which is still considered to be the greatest album that they've every put out. Aventura still practices today in smaller reunion concerts, staying true to their original style, so imagine the fan base they must have built up over the years (Rovi 1)!
